George Romero’s Day of the Dead Remake In The Works


Earth’s infatuation with zombies is hitting its high point with the topic making up some of the best movies, television series, video games, and books of the last couple years. Finally, one of the more quintessential original zombie films is getting a remake. According to Deadline, George Romero’s classic film, Day of The Dead, will be heading back to the big screen. Again.

Serving as a final follow-up to Romero’s Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead was released in 1985. It was set in an underground military base, the film follows the zombie apocalypse from the point of view of both soldiers, scientists and a zombie test subject named Bub.

Day of the Dead was previously remade in 2008 but was released as a direct-to-home video.

The remake comes from Millennium Films and Taurus Entertainment. Christa Campbell and Lati Grobman will be producing, both known for their work as producers on Texas Chainsaw 3D. The producers of the new project have assured fans that it will attempt to honor Romero’s original while promising that the zombies will the traditional slow-moving kind.

Production is planned for later this year with a 2014 release being targeted. There is no word yet on any actors attached or approached for the film.
