Syfy Moves Forward With 12 Monkeys Television Pilot

We reported a few weeks ago that SyFy was eyeing a new television series based on the science fiction film, 12 Monkeys.  This week it was officially announced that the network has greenlit the pilot and the project will begin to move forward.

SyFy will be producing a 60 minute cast-contigent pilot episode that will be produced by Universal Cable Productions and Atlas Entertainment, producer of the original Bruce Willis-Brad Pitt theatrical. Production is set to begin in November with Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, who wrote the pilot script, serving as Co-Executive Producers. Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Richard Suckle will executive produce. Roven produced the original film.

12 Monkeys was originally released in 1995 through Universal Pictures from director Terry Gillam. It was actually based on the Chris Marker 1962 short film called “La Jetée.” The story follows the journey of a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race.

There is no word yet on who is expected to star in the television project or when we can expect the pilot to air.
