NBC Plans Outbreak Television Series

In case you didn’t have enough reason to be totally freaked out by the fact that an outbreak can happen at any moment and that we will soon be living in a world identical to “The Last of Us,” NBC has got you covered. The network as announced that development has begun on a television adaptation of Wolfgang Petersen’s 1995 thriller Outbreak.

The series has snagged executive producers Jack Orman and John Wells according to Deadline. The duo is working together to script the pilot and hope that show will become an hour-long venture.

In apt casting for the 90’s, the original film starred Dustin Hoffman, Morgan Freeman, Cuba Gooding Jr., Rene Russo, Kevin Spacey and Donald Sutherland. If you haven’t seen it you may hazard a guess on its plot. It follows the spread of a viral epidemic that threatens to wipe out all human life. (Incidentally, I just started watching “House of Cards” last night, and hope to god that Kevin Spacey would return for the Outbreak series.)

Gail Katz, who produced the Petersen film, is also attached to produce the series with Andrew Stearn also listed as an executive producer.
