I am getting more and more anxious as the “Doctor Who” 50th anniversary special nears. WHO ARE YOU JOHN HURT!?!?! All that anxiety aside, a brand new poster for the anniversary special has been released and you can see it above. It features Matt Smith as the current (11th) Doctor, but also David Tennant, the previous 10th Doctor, and John Hurt. It also reveals the name of the episode which will be titled, “The Day of the Doctor.”
“The Day of the Doctor” will see the return of Tennant as well as Billie Piper who played Rose in the first two seasons of the revived “Doctor Who” series. This is the first time Tennant and Piper have appeared in the series since their farewells in 2010. Current companion, Jenna Coleman will also star. Jemma Redgrave will reprise her role as Kate Stewart. The special will feature the return of the Zygons, aliens which have previously only appeared in Terror of the Zygons from the 1975 serials, as well as the return of the notable antagonist, the Daleks.
“‘The Day of the Doctor’ is nearly here!” says Smith. “Hope you all enjoy. There’s lots more coming your way, as the countdown to the 50th begins now.”
Steven Moffat, the lead writer and executive producer of the series, also spoke about the special episode.
“50 years has turned Doctor Who from a television show into a cultural landmark. Personally I can’t wait to see what it becomes after a hundred.”
The anniversary episode will premiere on Saturday, November 23, 2013.
