Eleanor Catton wins Man Booker Prize

The author of the acclaimed novel, “The Luminaries,” Eleanor Catton has been awarded the 2013 Man Booker Prize, Britain’s highest literary honor, on Tuesday. Catton, 28, is the youngest writer to be awarded the prize.

“The Luminaries” is also the longest work to win the award at 832 pages. The novel is set during New Zealand’s 1866 gold rush featuring a layered murder mystery that centers on a group of men with intertwined fates.

Publishers Weekly called “The Luminaries,” a,

“heart-pounding sport of the manifold suspects, witnesses, and possible accomplices” that reminds readers of “the excitement of storytelling.”
