The recent addition to the “Animal Crossing” franchise, “New Leaf” has been an immense success for Nintendo and the 3DS. In a supplemental release following yesterday’s earnings report, Nintendo updated sales figures for its million-selling titles over the first half of its fiscal year.

“Animal Crossing: New Leaf” has sold 2.49 million copies worldwide from April through September, bringing the game’s lifetime total to 6.35 million copies. Luigi’s Mansion was the next best seller, adding 1.91 million worldwide to bring its total to 3.13 million.

While the Wii U struggles to break through with consumers, the momentum of the 3DS seems undeterred. Nintendo’s next earning report will include the launch of Pokemon X and Y, two games that combined to sell 4 million copies worldwide in their first two days on sale.

In this installment of “Animal Crossing,” the player takes control of the mayor instead of a normal villager. The game was first released on November 8, 2012, in Japan and was later released in North America, Europe and Australia in June 2013. The game has received very positive reviews, gaining aggregate scores of 88 and 87.30% on Metacritic and GameRankings, so far making it the highest rated game in the Animal Crossing series.
