A Dual-Screen E-Ink Phone Now Exists and Looks Gorgeous

I already like the idea of E-Ink even if I do not like E-books per say. Combining that technology with a smartphone just seems, well, amazing. The dual-screened venture known as the YotaPhone is now available. At least, it is if you live in Russia, Germany, France, Austria or Spain.

The innovative phone is expensive though with a price point of €499 (roughly $670 USD). It runs Android and combines a standard 4.3-inch 720p LCD touchscreen up front with a 4.3-inch E-Ink screen around the back. A 1.7GHz dual-core processor, backed by 2GB of RAM, powers the handset.

The E-Ink is low-powered so that the screen can be left on at all times without using up massive amounts of battery power. It updates only when new notifications come in allowing for quick phone checks without loss of battery life. It also has the added bonus of more comfortable reading sessions. Not to mention fact that E-Ink screens retain the last image pushed to them even when out of juice which could be useful for when the handset’s battery does eventually die.

Unfortunately there is no U.S. launch date for the YotaPhone as it remains in European pockets.
